Frequently Asked Questions
What are adaptive music lessons?
Adaptive music lessons are lessons tailored to an individual’s unique strengths and learning styles. The lessons are often taught outside of a structured classroom environment. Common modifications include learning by ear; the use of nontraditional notation such as colors, numbers, or letters; non-traditional tunings; assistive devices such as chord pressers or instrument stands; the incorporation of movement; and anything else that will assist an individual in making music.
Are adaptive music lessons a form of music therapy?
Adaptive music lessons are not music therapy in an of themselves. Adaptive music lessons can be a part of music therapy and can be a service provided by licensed music therapists.
Where will the lessons be held?
Currently lessons can be held in your home or, potentially, in the early childcare center your child attends. Most centers will work with outside service providers to allow children to have additional learning experiences. I am currently employed with Rainbow Riders and the use of their space is approved.
Do I need my own instrument?
Yes. A keyboard, ukulele, and percussion equipment will be provided during lesson time. However, children should have access to the instrument they are learning at home to continue to practice on their own. Please discuss the proper equipment to purchase with me.
