Mr.
Matthew
If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.
My approach
Personalized
Each lesson is tailored to your specific interests and learning style. I’m here to help you start a new instrument, add supplemental instruction to traditional band classes, and provide adaptive music lessons.
Comprehensive
I teach music wholistically. Lessons include developmentally appropriate music reading skills, listening skills, music critique, and performance skills. I focus on bringing your music into your everyday life, not just practice rooms and recital halls.
Adaptive
Adaptive music classes are designed to cater to the varying abilities and needs of students with special education requirements. These classes involve tailoring the music curriculum and teaching methods to support a range of learning styles.
Modern
Teaching wind ensembles in the public-school systems of Southwest Virginia helped me learn how to best bring music to our students and communities: modern music. While classical music will always have a special place in my heart, it is just not how we engage with music as a culture today.
